What is a customizable information system?

It is a system that is designed once and used repetitively to produce specifications of product individuals meeting customer requirements.


The process of mass customization

Individual requirements must be captured and then translated into a physical product to be delivered to the client. Mass customization’s goal is to deliver a product tailored it its users’ requirements for a reduced price.


Types of mass customization

There are 4 main types of mass customization with different characteristics. They are applied under different conditions.

Collaborative customization

These companies work in collaboration with customers who cannot articulate what they want, they are offered a range of products to choose from.


Adaptive customization

Products that can perform different functions are provided. This makes it easy to create the products’ architectural aspects instead of adjusting its components.


Transparent customization

This is used mostly if the customer’s specific needs can be predicted. Products are customized within a standard package based on customers’ behavior.


Cosmetic customization

This is used if customers prefer similar features and differ in how they want it packaged. The packages re presented in a different way to the customer.
